I Am. Postpartum Certified Doula

From 2016-2018 I am working to complete my Postpartum Doula Certification with DONA International. www.DONA.org

After my completion, I will be qualified to offer professional postpartum support, following international standards of practice, to birthing women and their families. Becoming a PCD (postpartum certified doula) has always been a dream of mine. I was six years old when my little brother was born and I knew then my aspirations were to be a teacher, caregiver and child mentor. At the beginning of 2016 my lil’ sister-in-law told me she was pregnant and I began my postpartum doula certification. I have always felt comfortable caring for infants and started babysitting a 6 month old in my neighborhood. Looking back I can’t believe how confident I was for being so young. I have been influenced by all my wonderful aunts, uncles and grandparents in my family. Growing up as a teenage and young adult I was always supporting infants in my community whether it was helping a friend support their baby or keeping a watchful eye one of my younger cousins. In college, while studying child psychology & development, I was an infant-toddler daycare teacher and also observed and studied in a preschool- special needs classroom. After college, I further my studies in child development at Yale University. I was a research mentor at in the Autism Program at the Yale Child Study Center. Now I have a full time Nanny business and my postpartum certification will allow me to evolve my Nanny services to better serve mothers and infants transition into their new world of family.
